Website Terms of Use

Who we are

This website is operated by Elise the Speechie (Elise McMellin). References to “we”, “us” or “our” mean Elise McMellin. References to “you” mean the website visitor or client. Services include assessments and one-to-one therapy delivered privately, usually by home visit within the service area shown on the site.

Using this site

Content is for general information and may change. We try to keep it accurate, however we do not guarantee that it is complete or suitable for any particular purpose. You agree to use the site lawfully, and not to do anything that could damage, disable or impair it or interfere with other users.

Professional information on the site

Information about professional registration and experience is provided in good faith and reflects current status. For verification of protected titles, see the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) supports adherence to professional standards.

Intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, all text, graphics, photos, and downloadable resources on this site are our property or used with permission. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute site content without prior written consent, other than for your own personal, non-commercial use.

Scope

This policy explains how we handle personal data from:

  • Website enquiries and messages
  • Private practice client records for children receiving speech and language therapy

The data we collect

Website enquiries and messages (examples based on the site’s contact form):

  • First and last name
  • Email
  • Phone number
  • Your child’s name and age
  • Postcode for home visits
  • Your message

Clients and prospective clients:

  • Parent or carer contact details
  • Child’s details and background information relevant to communication needs
  • Health information contained in assessments, session notes, reports, and resources (special category data)

We do not use your enquiry details for marketing.

How we get your data

  • Directly from you by email, phone, website form, messages, or during sessions
  • From other professionals or education settings only with your authorisation, unless required by law or safeguarding

Why we use your data and our lawful bases

Children’s data and parental responsibility

We work with children. We collect information from a parent or carer with parental responsibility. Please tell us promptly about any changes to contact details or legal arrangements.

Sharing your data

We share personal data only when necessary, for example with:

  • Education and health professionals at your request
  • Insurers, regulators, safeguarding bodies, or law enforcement where required by law

We do not sell your data.

How long we keep your data

  • Enquiries that do not proceed: 12 months from last contact, then deleted
  • Client records (children): 7 years after last contact or until the child’s 26th birthday, whichever is later
  • Financial records: 6 years for tax and accounting

If you ask us to erase data, we will retain what we must for legal or regulatory reasons.

Your rights

You have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object, and data portability, and to withdraw consent where consent is our basis.

Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures, for example access controls, encryption where appropriate, secure devices, and confidentiality practices.
